I was lucky enough to have a small business in the city. I took a job at the Land Securities Trust and then was appointed a director. And I've been working in the city for almost 20 years. Now I'm running my own business in the city.

What's your job as a chartered surveyor?

I work as a Chartered Surveyor at the London Stock Exchange. I hold the position to the company's highest standards and have been working on behalf of it for more than 30 years. I've been managing a company for 30 years, but I've been a Chartered Surveyor for over 5 years.

What's your personal story?

I'm a single mother - I'm a self-employed father. I've been working as a chartered surveyor for over 20 years and I'm proud of my work, but I've never been a Chartered Surveyor myself.

How did you end up on board the Land Securities Trust?

My first job was as a manager. I started here as a chartered surveyor in 1987, at which time I was doing very well. I had a long history of working with companies that would go on to create some of the world's most successful companies. I knew that I could take the lead in the new industry and, of course, that I could do it with good judgement. I was a very good manager. I think, because I was a Chartered Surveyor, I had the potential for success. I was very lucky that I was appointed as a director.

How long have you been on board the Land Securities Trust?

It was in my mid-70s when I started. I worked as a Chartered Surveyor in the early 70s. We were always on the lookout for potential new investors to invest in the stock market. I met a lot of them - some of them were in the board of directors - and they decided to invest in the company. I was lucky that I was able to get the opportunity.

What's the biggest problem you had with the Land Securities Trust?

I had an opportunity to make some money working in the UK. I would sit in a conference room and talk about the company. I'd bring a PowerPoint presentation from the company and I'd start to get a good understanding of the company.

What other problems did you have with the Land Securities Trust?

I was never very good at getting people to invest in the stock market. I would get people to invest in the company and then they would get more and more people to invest. I wouldn't take the company seriously.

What was the biggest issue in the Land Securities Trust's early days?

The company was very young in the early 1970s. We had just started as a company in 1972. The company's founders, Richard and John, were the founders of the stock market. We were very small and very small. We weren't very well known - just the names of the investors were on the cards.

What kind of problems did you have with the Land Securities Trust?

The biggest problem I had was a lack of time and money. I was in the early 70s when I started. I worked as a chartered surveyor in the early 70s. A lot of people, including myself, would be interested in investing in the stock market. We would meet, I would say, many people before they would be in the stock market. We would have a good idea of what the stock market was going to be like in 20 years.

How did you get involved with the Land Securities Trust?

We had a very good meeting with John, who was the founder of the company. I asked him a few questions. He said 'What sort of company do you sell for? What kind of company are you running?' And I said 'I'm selling for a company that is going to be very successful in the long term. If we can get people into the stock market and invest in it, I think that's very profitable.'
